L'Orchidee Chine Restaurant

SUPERB, the Webster dictionary defines this word as “excellent, impressive or splendid” we might add another to the list … L’Ochidee Chine.

If you’re a Szechwan cuisine connoisseur, the exquisite tastes of L’Orchidee Chine is a must visit to complete any day in downtown Montreal. Located on Peel, just below Sherbrooke St. West, L’Orchidee Chine is an upscale

L'Orchidee Chine

restaurant that has grown to be the standard by which other Asian restaurants may be compared.

Eva and George Lau are two of Montreal’s finest restaurateurs whose unique style in the preparation and service of this fine cuisine is truly a treat. They were often present at our table offering suggestions and telling us about the distinct flavours of their recipes. In order to have a good sense of the mild, spicy, sweet or other tasting dishes, we were served so that we could appreciate the differences. Each of the dishes was arranged beautifully and with perfection. The wine list is extensive and George, a wine connoisseur, is happy to make suggestions.

For starters we enjoyed the delicious bite sized Won Ton Raviolis. These came in a wonderful sesame sauce and were delicately sprinkled with black and white sesame seeds. The Golden Tour vegetarian spring rolls, a must try, were lightly fried in an egg paste batter, filled with crisp sprouts and scallions and dipped in the chefs special sauce. The Crispy Duck in Chinese Pancakes came with tender pieces of duck, scallions and hoisin sauce rolled in thin pancakes…WOW!

Eva suggested, for one of our main courses, the Steamed Fillet of Fish with Ginger and Scallions. Served in a bamboo basket, lightly steamed and delicately flavoured with ginger, this dish was an outstanding choice. The Jumbo Shrimps in Garlic Sauce were perfectly sautéed and indeed jumbo. Seasonal Chinese Greens with Shitake Mushrooms and Dry Sautéed String Beans were our vegetable choices. The Orange Beef was next and came lightly fried and covered in a sweet, thick and subtly flavoured orange sauce…delicious! As well as an extensive main menu, L’Orichdee Chine offers a large selection of deserts, speciality coffees and teas.

The ease of valet parking makes the experience of downtown dining worry free. Two floors of earth tones and tinted lightening create a soothing atmosphere. An extensive food menu, full bar, and wine list to suit anyone’s taste make L’Orchidee Chine a truly wonderful dining experience.
